There is lots to love during the Niseko summer

Summer in Niseko unveils a serene transformation, where the snow-cloaked slopes give way to lush landscapes and vibrant outdoor adventures. This year we are expecting temperatures to remain high for the summer season in Niseko. Hokkaido provides an ideal backdrop for a summer getaway - whether you are looking to relax and unwind in the sun, or explore the local terrain on foot, bike or raft!

Walking paths and hiking trails

Come summer bloom, Niseko turns into a lush green paradise home to an array of flora and fauna for you to enjoy. Just as beautiful as the winter months, Hokkaido's landscape invites enchanting encounters with a variety like no other, thanks to the location across two tectonic plates. Below are a few of Niseko's most charming trails for a variety of abilities.

Shinsen-Numa

Looking for a calm atmosphere, glorious surrounds, and cool mountain air? Sharing in the delight of the natural elements of Shinsen-numa is easily accessible with wooden boardwalks, making it a perfect outing for the whole family, including children and grandparents. With various ponds sprinkled along the trail showcasing unique reflections of their surroundings, Shinsen-numa is definitely worth a visit.

Fun fact: "This is the place where Gods and immortals exist" - Toyomatsu Shimoda, co-founder of the Boy Scouts in Japan, aptly captured the essence of the Niseko Range. This quote encapsulated his choice to name the marsh, Shinsen-numa (Shinsen means ‘God and immortals’, while numa means ‘marsh’ in Japanese).

Niseko-Annupuri

As one of the four resorts completing the famous Niseko United, Annupuri is considered to be the peak of the Niseko volcanic group. For those wanting a bit more of a challenge, this 5km hike takes an average of just under 3 hours to complete.

Boasting some of the greatest views of Mt. Yotei, be ready to trek through flourishing flora on a well-used trail, before popping out at the tree line to reach the Annupuri summit. Although not one of most technical hikes in Niseko, the trail can be a little rocky with an elevation of around 500m. Be sure to wear good walking shoes and grab a free map at one of the huts at the trailhead.

To top off your your hike, the trailhead is located right next to Goshiki Onsen - embrace Japanese culture and relax in the outdoor baths after taking in the breathtaking summit of Niseko's mountain range.
