Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers as well as characters from the Disney movie "Frozen" have been featured in this year's Sapporo Snow Festival. The 15 metre high Star Wars exhibit was reportedly carved by more that 400 Japanese Self-Defence Force troops, in a 3-month effort that used over 3,500 tons of snow to complete.
The internationally renowned Sapporo Snow Festival is the biggest fixture on a long list of Japanese winter events. The event, which has been running since 1950, consistently attracts over 2 million visitors a year, many coming from all over the world to see the ice sculptures lining Odori Park.
The festival is one of 4 events you shouldn't miss this February if you are holidaying in or around Niseko.
